Tommy Gubitsch

This will be one of the rare occasions when the audience can delight in a concert byTommy Gubitsch, the Argentine guitarist who settled in France more than 30 years ago. With his own works and direction, he will be appearing alongside a French-Argentine ensemble made up of Juanjo Mosalini (bandoneon), Gerardo Jerez Le Cam (piano), Eric Chalan (double bass) and Jacob Maciuca (violin). Far from sticking to a fossilised tradition, his music includes elements from different styles, whose vertices may be, on the one hand, contemporary music and, on the other, a filtered form of tango. His career attests to this heterodoxy. He began playing at the age of 16 with bandoneonist Rodolfo Mederos and a year later he had already joined Invisible, Luis Alberto Spinetta’s band. In 1977, he was invited by Piazzolla to tour Europe with the Octeto Electrónico, by the end of which he settled in Paris. In that city he developed a fruitful career, which included a duo with pianist Osvaldo Caló, the composition of incidental music for film, theatre and dance and his work as a teacher and conductor. Last year, in Paris, he was honoured with the prestigious Hommage award.
